Recent Research Activities

The Society for Family Health (SFH) Special Project Division (SPD) fulfills part of the organizations’ sustainability strategy as contained its overall Strategic plan. The division is responsible for the coordination, facilitation and execution of other projects outside of the USAID & DFID sponsored projects even though linkages exist between the various projects. Activities of the division are carried out by three distinct departments - Monitoring and Evaluation, Finance and Programmes responsible for HIV Counselling & Testing, and Workplace programme activities.

SPD manages SFH’s Principal Recipient activities for the Round 5 HIV Counselling and Testing and also implements the Workplace program of the Global Fund AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria (GFATM) project. In addition, it carries out other special projects such as workplace interventions i.e. Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Chevron and Exxon–Mobil. SFH’s Global Fund (GF) deliverables include:
• Establish 555 site across the country within 5years
• Train 1665 counsellors in 5years
• Test one million people in 5 years
• Implement HIV workplace program in 120 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for two years
• Implement the Greater Involvement of People Living with AIDS (GIPA) program.

Objectives under Global Fund:
1. To scale up comprehensive HIV & AIDS treatment, care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS to all 37 States in the country.
2. To expand access to HIV testing and counselling services to cover all 37 States in the country.
3. To strengthen the role of the community, civil society organizations and networks of PLWHA in providing and supporting HIV & AIDS treatment and care.
4. To increase access to care and support services for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in all 37 States.
5. To increase capacity of the private sector to implement workplace HIV/AIDS programs in 12 States.
6. To strengthen capacity of implementing institutions for effective programme management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation.

Linkages to PSRHH interventions:
• Promotion of Counselling & Testing (CT) services in various PSRHH intervention sites.
• Demand creation activities of PSRHH field staff linked to Global Fund CT sites.
• List of all Global Fund sites to be made available to all PSRHH field office.
• Developed national M & E tools which PSRHH staff will adapt (including C&T referrals forms)

The GF Round 5 project has three Principal Recipients, namely: NACA, SFH, & ARFH. It adopts the cluster model for comprehensive HIV & AIDS treatment, care and support program.
