Family Planning |
The Family Planning Division is one of the key Programme units which has the mandate to achieve the following • Increase knowledge of modern child spacing methods among couples of reproductive age. • Increase positive attitude towards child spacing products • Achieve a national reduction in maternal mortality. • Increase interspousal communication among couples. • Increase number of women using modern child spacing methods. (Increase CPR from 11% in 2005 to 16% in 2010). • Increased capacity of providers to offer correct information and child spacing services to deserving couples. The division implements both the Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Reduction (PSRHH) and the Improved Reproductive Health in Nigeria (IRHIN) Projects. PSRHH is a seven – year project (2002 – 2007) that is funded by DFID, while the IRHIN Project is a USAID Project which runs from 2005 – 2010. The IRHIN Projects contributes 75% of the funds available to the RH/FP division. Both projects compliment each other. The goal of the RH/FP is to contribute to the Millennium Development Goal (MDG Goal #5) of reducing maternal mortality rates in Nigeria and to contribute to national awareness of population management issues and child spacing, while the purpose is to improve the understanding of, access to and correct use of contraceptives to reduce unintended or mistimed pregnancies.
